Lucknow: Firozabad’s police clashed with the anti- Citizenship Amendment Act protestors on December 20. While people were running to save themselves from police brutality, Haji Qadir rushed to rescue a policeman badly injured in the violence.
“Hajji Qadir Sahab came like an angel in my life. Had it not been for him, I would have been killed,” Ajay Kumar, a policeman, who had injuries on his hand and head after he was beaten by the violent mob during the December 20 protest, told ANI.
“He took me to his home. I had injuries on one of my fingers and head. He gave me water and his clothes to wear and assured me that I will be safe. He took me to the police station later,” Kumar added.
Recalling the incident, Haji Qadir said that he was offering Namaz when he was told that a policeman had been surrounded by the mob.
“He was severely injured, I assured him that I will save him. I didn’t know his name at the time. What I did was for humanity,” Haji Qadir said.
To be noted, protests in Uttar Pradesh over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) have resulted in as many as 18 deaths till now. While hundreds have been injured, around 879 people have been arrested and 21,500 people have been booked in 15 FIRs lodged at various police stations, as per official figures.
