New Delhi: Jacob Lindenthal, a postgraduate student of physics at the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT Madras), was asked to leave the country since he participated in an anti-Citizenship Act (CAA) protest last week in Chennai. Lindenthal left for Amsterdam on Monday i.e 23rd December.
“There were apparently administration issues with my visa. After ruling these out, I was extensively questioned by the immigration officer about my political opinions. Then I was informed about the decision (asking me to leave),” he told News18.
In an another incident, Janne-Mette Johansson (71), the Norwegian woman who took part in the Anti-CAA protest in Kochi, was on Thursday asked to leave India by the immigration officials on Friday morning. The officials reached her hotel in Fort Kochi and asked her to pack her luggage and leave the country at the earliest. The Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) Kochi also confirmed the same and said that action will be initiated against her if she doesn’t cooperate.
“The officials just came introduced themselves being from the immigration department and asked me to leave the country ASAP or legal action will be taken,” she told Times of India
“We have asked Janne to leave India as she cannot stay here after violating the rules and still speaking to the media against the government. Her VISA has not been canceled but if she doesn’t cooperate, she will have to face legal actions,” a senior FRRO official said.
