Buttler calls on England batsmen to maintain aggressive approach

Johannesburg : England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler has called on his teammates to not abandon their attacking approach with the bat despite the hosts endured a top-order collapse in the opening ODI against Sri Lanka.

Chasing a target of 288, England made a stuttering start and were reeling at 82-6 before Buttler (93) and Chris Woakes (95 not out) combined to steady the ship.

Subsequently, tailender Liam Plunkett smacked a six in the last ball of the match to ensure the first of the five-match series ended in a thrilling tie at Trent Bridge.

Speaking ahead of the second match in Edgbaston on Friday, Buttler has backed his side to ‘play even more shots’ in order to put the opposition under pressure, Sport24 reported.

Reflecting on the first match, the right-handed batsman also praised his team’s resilience saying that ‘it was nice to drag one back’ from a miserable position. (ANI)
