New Delhi, September 10: After trying to stall for days CBI questioning him, NCSC Chairman Buta Singh today recorded his statement with the agency in connection with a corruption case in which his son had been arrested.
A two-member CBI team arrived much ahead of Singh in his office located multi-storey Lok Nayak Bhavan and waited for the National Commission for Scheduled Caste Chairman, who had earlier refused to appear before the probe agency.
Singh, who had challenged the CBI summoning him, was questioned for over three hours by the team which is probing the bribery case of Rs one crore involving his son Sarobjit Singh alias Sweety, arrested by the agency.
CBI had arrested Singh’s son for having allegedly promised a contractor to settle his case with the Scheduled Caste Commission.
“Whatever information they sought, I have given,” Singh told reporters after meeting the two-member CBI team and refused to divulge the nature of questions posed to him or information sought from him.
Singh had earlier struck a defiant note saying CBI has no authority to question a Constitutional functionary having powers of a civil court and had filed a petition against the CBI summon before the Delhi High Court.
However, the CBI had informed the court that Singh had been summoned by the agency under Section 160 of Criminal Procedure Code (calling for a witness) and the agency had every right to call him. .
