Hyderabad, October 09: In a pre-dawn incident, a youth sneaked into the bedroom of a businessman in Banjara Hills and shot at him, injuring him grievously on Friday. “At about 2.30 a.m, an unidentified person opened three rounds of fire at 58-year-old Vijay Raghavan, owner of the Trans-India Pvt Ltd, which sells tyres, while he was sleeping alone in his bedroom. One bullet missed the target but the other two pierced his body. The bullet which failed to hit was recovered,” police said.
According to police, only one assailant was involved in the operation.
The person gained entry by getting on top of a car inside the compound and then managed to get into the balcony. A door to the bedroom on the balcony had been left open.
Family members of the victim told police that Raghavan returned home on Thursday night at around 9 p.m and went to sleep after dinner.
Raghavan’s wife and daughter slept in the other bedroom.
It was Raghu who heard the gunshots and came out to investigate the sound. “When he knocked on the door, Raghavan’s wife Malathi opened the door, but she was not aware of the incident. They then went inside Raghavan’s bedroom to find him lying in a pool of blood. He was immediately shifted to the Apollo Hospital,” police said. After shooting at Raghavan, the assailant fled the scene. Police have collected impressions of the assailant’s footprints for evidence.
Banjara Hills division assistant commissioner of police R Ravinder Reddy said he suspected a business dispute might be the motive for attempt on Raghavan’s life.
“Raghavan is stable. Doctors removed one bullet from his chest and another from his shoulder,” he said. Family members of the victim told police they did not have rivalry with anyone.
