Bus strike postponed for a week as RTA holds talks with operators

The one-day strike call given by Telangana State Cabs and Bus Operators Association (TSCBOA) has been postponed for a week as the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Government of Telangana, has assured to take steps to fulfill their demands.

The TSCBOA had earlier given a call for a day-long bandh on May 20.

Transport Commissioner Sandeep Kumar Sultania on Tuesday held talks with the representatives of TSCBOA including its president Syed Nizamuddin, Secretary K Srinivas and Hadi Ali and Twin-Cities Bus Operators Association president Raju and General Secretary Maozam and other leaders. The discussions were held primarily on three major demands including Rationalisation of Road Tax, Day-wise Border Tax and inclusion of Telangana State in Reciprocal Agreement of Southern States.

The Transport Commissioner has assured that he would approach the higher-ups to get these issues resolved. He said that the decision on rationalisation of Road Tax could be taken up only by the State Government. However, he assured that the RTA would write to the departments concerned on the Border Tax and Reciprocal Agreement.

Sultania sought some time from the bus operators to get these issues resolved.

Speaking to media persons later, Syed Nizamuddin informed that in view of the assurance given by the Transport Commissioner, the proposed strike on May 20 is being postponed for about a week. The bus operators would wait for a week for the State Government to react on their demands and take appropriate action.

The operators would meet again during next weekend to review the progress and decide the future course of action. He hoped that the government would come out with some solution in the next 8-10 days. Else, he said that the operators would have no option but to go on indefinite strike. (INN)
