Bus fares hike opposed by CPI

Dr. K.Narayana, State Secretary of CPI, while addressing a press conference at Makhdoom Bhavan yesterday demanded the Govt. to withdraw increase in bus fares announced yesterday. He threatened the Govt. to launch a massive agitation if it is not withdrawn.

Govt. of A.P. has given its consent for the proposal to enhance bus fares to generate an extra income of Rs.400 crore every year. Commenting on the recent price rise on diesel, he told that there seems to be a race between Central & State government for raising the prices. He pointed out the loss of RTC is not possible only by raising the bus fares. Withdrawing old buses could minimize Rs.300 crore losses. RTC should stop allowing illegally run private vehicles, which would save Rs.1200 crore. Withdrawing old buses could save Rs.300 crore. By withdrawing the RTC servants working in officers’ houses would reduce Rs.5 crore per annum. Retrenchment of surplus RTC staff would save another Rs.300 crore.
