Bus fares to go up in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, March 03: Kerala cabinet has accepted the ministerial sub-committee’s proposals to increase bus fares of private and state-run Kerala State Road Transport Corporation services.

According to official sources, a formal announcement in this regard would be made in the state assembly by state Transport Minister Jose Thettayil tomorrow.

The minimum charge for ordinary services would go up from Rs 3.50 to Rs four and there would proportionate increase in fast and super fast services, they said.

The fare hike proposals were finalised by the cabinet sub-committee this evening.

Private bus operators have threatened to indefinitely suspend services later this month demanding hike in fares following increase in petroleum prices.
