Bus falls into gorge after brake failure, 12 injured

Dehradun, April 25: At least 12 persons were injured in a road accident when a bus coming from Roorkee turned turtle near the Daat Kali temple on Sunday. The bus had fallen into a gorge following brake failure, Clement Town SHO PS Bisht said.

A bus of Uttarakhand Transport Corporation ferrying around 30 passengers had fallen into a gorge near Daat Kali temple causing injuries to around 12 persons including the driver and conductor of the bus. All the injured were taken to hospital.

According to information available, the brakes of the bus with registration number UA 07 HO771 suddenly failed which led to this tragic accident.

Police reached to the spot immediately after getting the information by locals and started the rescue operation. The injured were taken to Doon hospital with the help of 108 ambulance service. The condition of the driver and conductor of the bus were stable while that of the others has improved sharply, SHO Bisht said.

Interestingly, an FIR has not been registered by any relative of the injured. Driver of the bus Tejveer Singh and conductor Raj Singh would be allowed to go to home upon recovery, SHO Bisht said. However, the incident has sparked resentment among locals who insisted on regular fitness checks of buses run by the Government service.
