Islamabad, April 08: Leading Pakistani rights activist Ansar Burney Wednesday said cricketer Shoaib Malik should apologise to the people of India and Pakistan as he had acknowledged his marriage with Ayesha Siddiqui by granting her a divorce and accepting some of her demands.
Burney had earlier said he had been invited to India by Ayesha’s mother to “dig out the truth” about the Indian woman’s claim that she had married Shoaib in 2002.
Shoaib’s plans to wed tennis star Sania Mirza had run into trouble due to Ayesha’s claim.
After denying for several days that he had married Ayesha, Shoaib Wednesday granted her a divorce.
“Now that the claim of Ayesha Siddiqui has been proven, it is the responsibility of Shoaib Malik to say sorry to Ayesha and the people and media of India and Pakistan as his actions hurt relations between the two countries,” told Burney.
Now that the differences between Shoaib and Ayesha had been resolved, Burney said he wanted to wish the best of luck to Sania Mirza.(HS-07/04)
