Buried newborn pulled out alive from mud in MP

Barwani, Madhya Pradesh: A crying baby was pulled out by from a mound of mud by a 32-year-old Sher Singh. He said some children were playing close to the burial ground at Ghus village, about 64 kms from Barwani, heard cries coming from under the mud on Monday evening.

“Taken aback by the cries coming out from beneath the ground, the children ran away and informed me and my wife Sunita, 28. When I reached the spot, I was shocked to hear the cries coming from a small mound which had a crack,” he said.

“We (Singh and his wife) started removing the mud with our hands and found a baby boy wailing inside,” he claimed. The child was buried just one foot below the earth, so the couple informed the Ojha police outpost about the incident, reports DC.

The newborn was admitted to the district hospital, additional superintendent of police TS Baghel said.
“We are looking at the records of maternity hospitals in the district,” Baghel said.

The boy seems to be 10 days old, district hospital’s paediatrician, Dr Roop Singh Bhadale, who has been treating him, said. The infant has been bitten by insects and is suffering from flu and cold, but is stable, he said.

The couple who rescued him wants to adopt him and consider him as sent by God. They couple has three daughters.
