Burial of unclaimed bodies: a new matter of concern

Hyderabad, November 1: Now a days administration of last rites of unclaimed bodies have become a problem due to apathy and alleged negligence of government departments. The situation of the two biggest government hospitals of the city is such that nearly 50 unclaimed bodies lie in the mortuary of Gandhi General hospital awaiting their last rites to be performed and have become a problem for the hospital too.

As far as the last rites of the unclaimed bodies are concerned the bodies have been divided into two categories. The funeral and burial rites of unclaimed Muslim bodies are administered by Siasat daily, while the responsibility of last rites of the unclaimed Hindu bodies and those of other religions is given to a voluntary organization named Satya Harish Chandra Foundation. However the authorities of the foundation have to say that they face difficulty in identifying the space for last rites and they have informed the municipal officials in this regard.

The foundation has received disposal letters of nearly 41 unclaimed bodies by the Hyderabad and Cyberabad railway police on which the authorities of the foundation have briefed the situation to the additional commissioner of the concerned department of Health and Science. The foundation officials told this. They further said that the superintendent of Gandhi hospital has also been informed about the situation in this regard.

For nearly two weeks there is no one to take care of the unclaimed bodies due to which hospital staff also faces difficulties.

This would no be out of place to mention here that previously Siasat daily also faced difficulties in the great and virtuous cause of burial of unclaimed bodies. Naming a few lack of space at some graveyard and on some obstacles were created by illegal occupants. But with courage and strong will of promoting the cause Siasat daily strived hard and by Allah’s grace succeeded in getting the space for burial of unclaimed bodies in Kukatpally at city outskirts and other places. It is not difficult to conceive of the consequences Siasat might have faced due to such circumstances.
