New Delhi: The Prime Minister’s Office has to pay Rs 134 crore to Air India for chartered flights he embarked upon between June and December 2015, an RTI copy accessed by The Quint has revealed.
On 29 January 2016, Air India received a bulk payment of Rs 147.90 crore for the 8 foreign trips undertaken by former PM Manmohan Singh and PM Modi between Sept 2013 and November 2014.
AI has prepared the invoices for all these travels and, the PMO is yet to make the payment for it.
“This is a cash-strapped airline that does not make money. Why is there such a delay on the part of the highest office in the country to settle these bills? Who bears the cost of the interest?” said Commodore Lokesh Batra- RTI Activist.
“More than the amount, the delay in payments is a major concern. The PMO should compensate the delay by paying interest on it, ” he said
