Investigating agencies on Monday began probing the role of three non-governmental organisations (NGOs) who are suspected to have funded the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) operatives in the case.
The agencies have found that three NGOs had allegedly transferred huge sums of money to the accused in the Burdwan blast.
Of the three NGOs under the scanner, one operates from Kuwait and two others are based in Saudi Arabia.
Earlier today, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, accompanied by National Security Guard (NSG) chief JN Choudhury and National Investigation Agency (NIA) director general Sharad Kumar, met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, whose government had opposed an NIA probe into the blast before the union home ministry asked the central agency to intervene.
