New Delhi Accusing the Central government-led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of failing to fulfil election promises, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi highlighted the plight of farmers on Friday, growing pulses and assured his party workers that the grand old party will fight together to take Uttar Pradesh to the top.
“Modiji focuses on the richest man, while the Congress Party focuses on the poorest man. Congress is fighting to change the lives of the people of Uttar Pradesh. We are fighting to form the government in Uttar Pradesh. We are not here to merely increase seats. The Congress Party and each and every hardworking, energetic Congress worker here wants Uttar Pradesh to become the No.1 state once again. That’s our goal. We will fight together and will it to the top spot. Party will fight with a plan,” Gandhi said while addressing his party workers in Lucknow.
The Congress vice-president criticised Prime Minister Modi for promising bullet trains and also repeated his ‘suit boot’ jibe. “Modi ji promised bullet trains, tickets will be not less than Rs 15000. Only Modi ji and his suit boot friends will travel in it,” he said.

Praising former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dixit’s tenure, he said that the people of Delhi fondly remember her rule and its years under Congress government. “Sheila Dikshit has taken Delhi towards development. The people of Delhi remember her and the Congress government during her tenure. If Congress Party stands together and if Congress works on the voice of its workers then no one can beat us. We made Sheila Dikshit the chief minister candidate of Uttar Pradesh because we want her to fight for women,” he added.
Continuing his attack on Modi for the rise in prices of essential commodities like pulses, Gandhi said, “When farmer sells his pulses, Modi ji gives him Rs 50 but when the same farmer buys his own pulses from the market he has to pay Rs 200.”
