Bull on the Run Creates Scare in Sharjah

Sharjah, November 28: A bull that fell off a truck nearly spoilt Eid Al Adha celebrations of motorists and people in a Sharjah area on Friday morning.

While people out greeting friends and neighbours along King Faisal Street ran for life, motorists swerved left and right trying to avoid the bull running helter-skelter.

Eyewitnesses and police sources said the bull fell from a truck carrying animals to a slaughterhouse around 8.30am. Not realising that he had lost one of his prized cargo, the driver sped towards Central Souq.

The fallen black bull suddenly found itself amidst speeding vehicles and people and started running in panic.

It attacked cars, damaging doors or side view mirrors, and charged at passers-by who ducked for cover.

Nobody was injured.

Traffic came to a standstill. The police, civil defence and municipal officials rushed to the area but none could take the bull by its horns for almost an hour.

Dr Mohammed Abu Shamala, an eyewitness, who was stuck in the traffic for over an hour, said he was frightened to see the bull running helter-skelter on the road.

“It was a ferocious looking animal and could have hit any pedestrian or motorist if the drama had continued a little longer,” he said

Finally, it was caught, blindfolded and transported safely to the municipality’s animal barn, a police source told. The bull would be kept in the barn until its owner comes to claim the animal, he added.
