Bulk drugs imported illegally from China confiscated

Mumbai, October 26: Authorities have confiscated bulk drug formulations worth Rs 80 lakh imported from unregistered sources in China by local firms, an official said today.

The formulations were seized during raids conducted by the office of the Deputy Drugs Controller (DDC) yesterday at offices and godowns of two pharma firms.

“Raids were conducted on the basis of a tip-off that Sarvodaya Enterprises and Sidhambika Pharma Pvt Ltd were importing drugs without registration and licence from unregistered sources in China in violation of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act,” Deputy Drugs Controller R Ramakrishna said in a release.

Both firms have their offices in suburban Vile Parle and share a godown at Bhiwandi in neighbouring Thane district.

Maharashtra’s Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) also took part in the simultaneous raids.

The confiscated drugs included sulphadoxine, streptomycin sulfate sterile, nitrofurantoin and rutin.
