Buffaloes used as shields by Osmania protesters

Hyderabad, July 08: All is fair in love and war, it is said. But is this? Pro-Telangana activists have hit upon a novel way to protest by pushing buffaloes yes, buffaloes to the forefront of the battle in Osmania University between students and the security forces.

Fortunately, the animals were not hurt in the stone-pelting and bursting of teargas shells.

Elsewhere in the region also there were protest rallies even as government employees, lawyers, teachers and workers’ unions met to discuss strategies for an effective non-cooperation movement.

“Every Telanganite now feels that they have a role to play to strengthen the movement,” said M Kodandaram, Convenor, Telangana JAC.

Telangana Telugu Desam MLAs were getting ready to capitalise on the goodwill they believe they have earned by submitting their resignation letters. Over the next one week, they will be touring nine districts and areas where it had become difficult for elected representatives to set foot while holding on to their seat. Those who resigned however feel their victory is in that they can now face the people.

“We were the first to resign, even before the Congress and other parties. That shows our sincerity and commitment to Telangana. No one can doubt our sincerity,” said TDP leader Kadiam Srihari.

The Telangana Joint Action wants to capitalise on the momentum generated by the political resignations by uniting the political and non-political groups. But it is difficult for the political parties to share a common platform.
