New Delhi: After the protests in various states due to new regulations of ‘no slaughter’ list of animals which includes cows, bulls, buffaloes, heifers, calves and camels, the government is rethinking over the ban and likely to remove buffaloes from the list, an official said on Monday.
“We have received some representations over the list of animals included (in the new cattle slaughter rules). We are working on it,” AN Jha, secretary in the union environment ministry has said, reported the HT.
The environment ministry had regulated the rules to prevent cruelty to animals, making it mandatory to ensure that cattle are not bought or sold for slaughter.
The protests held in various states against the new rules, especially in Kerala, which is one of the states in the country where cow slaughter is not banned.
While holding the protest, youth Congress workers slaughtered a cow publicly and cooked its meat.
The state’s ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist held over 300 “beef festivals” across Kerala where cooked beef was served.
