Hyderabad, March 06: Asserting that the Congress Government had been giving top priority to people’s welfare and State’s development, Chief Minister Konijeti Rosaiah told the Assembly today that the government targeted to achieve 9 pc GSDP growth rate for 2010-11.
Accordingly, steps were taken to fix priorities and the budget was prepared with focus on seven subjects which included quality education, health and medical services, he said in his reply to the debate on the budget presented by him.
He said there was a fall in the State’s income during 2008-09 in view of the global economic recession.
However, India was one of the few countries which weathered the recession and started showing signs of recovery.
“The State has recorded considerable growth in the industrial sector between October and December 2009.
Besides, more Central Government’s funds to the State were expected under JNNUR M, AIBP, NREGP and other schemes. The State Government does not want to hide the facts.
We expect that the growth in exports will touch the double-digit figure. We will definitely achieve 9 to 10 pc growth rate during 2010-11.’’ Referring to Opposition’s criticism of debts raised by the government, Rosaiah claimed that the percentage of State’s debts had been coming down unlike during the TDP rule.
“On the other hand, the GSDP growth rate has been increasing year after year. Whatever the debts raised by the government are meant for capital expenditure,’’ he explained.
