Buddha urges PM for waiver of Centre’s loan to revive MAMC

Kolkata, December 09: The West Bengal government has appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to waive off the dues of the Mining and Allied Machinery Corporation in Durgapur, which is under liquidation, for its revival.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said: “It may be mentioned that MAMC, a fully-owned Government of India company is scheduled for closure following recommendation of BIFR. I request you to waive (off) all its dues… for its revival.”

Assets of the company are currently in the custody of the Official Liquidator of the Calcutta High Court.

With the High Court allowing submission of a viable revival proposal for MAMC, a consortium of three major government-owned companies BEML, CIL and DVC have prepared a techno-economic feasibility study for its revival.

Recently, Industry minister Nirupam Sen also wrote to the Union Heavy Industries minister Vilasrao Desmukh for the revival of the ailing unit.
