Buddha Prasad ends three-day fast over water for Krishna Delta

Former minister Mandari Buddha Prasad on Tuesday called of his three-day old hunger fast that he undertook demanding release of water for Krishna Delta.

The decision to call of the strike was taken after Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy spoke to Buddha Prasad over telephone and assured him that he would send Irrigation Minister Sudarshan Reddy to Krishna Delta to study the need for requirement of water in the Krishna Delta region. Following the Chief Minister’s assurance Buddha Prasad called off the strike. Another former minister Gade Venkat Reddy offered him lime juice to break his fast.

Talking to repoters later, Buddha Prasad claimed that his hunger fast was not aimed at drawing political mileage. He said several leaders were opposed to the demand for release of water to Krishna Delta region and to highlight the plight of farmers, he undertook the fast.

Speaking on the occasion, Congress MLAs P Nani, Malladi Vishnu and Jogi Ramesh and other leaders announced that they would launch another hunger fast if the State Government fails to fulfill its commitment for release of water for the Krishna Delta region. (INN)
