BTech student jumps to death

Hyderabad, November 02: An engineering final year student, harassed by her husband and in-laws for dowry, jumped to death from the fourth floor of a building at Kukatpally on Sunday morning. The husband and in-laws were allegedly harassing the victim to sell a four-acre site that was on her name.

According to the police, the victim, 19-year-old V Kranthi, was a BTech final year student of St Ann’s College in Eluru. Kranthi’s parents got her married to Kashi Vishwanath Raju, who is also pursuing his final year engineering in Malla Reddy College of Engineering on the outskirts of the city. The young couple was married in May 2009.

As she was still pursuing her education, Kranthi used to visit her in-laws during the holidays.

On Saturday, Kranthi came to her in-laws house at SA Towers in Phase-VI of Kukatpally Housing Board (KPHB) Colony.

Around 6.30 am on Sunday, Kranthi jumped from the fourth floor of the apartment complex and died instantly.

“Kranthi’s parents — Sharada and Satya Sai Varma — farmers from Eluru alleged that Kashi Vishwanath Raju and his parents had been harassing their daughter to sell her the four-acre plot and give them the money,” Kukatpally police sub-inspector Balaraj said.

Police said a case under Section 304-b (dowry harassment) has been registered against Kasi Vishwanath Raju and his parents, Ramakrishna Raju and Parvathi.
