BTech graduate burgles houses, steals laptops

Hyderabad, July 28: A BTech graduate, who also worked as an assistant director in some Telugu movies was arrested along with his associate for committing 55 burglaries at houses. Police recovered 34 laptops, 66 tola gold and silver articles and other valuables all worth Rs 40 lakh from them. The accused, however, could not sell all the stolen laptops due to the slump in the IT sector.

The Madhapur police, on information by the watchman of a residential complex, arrested the two burglars, K Krishna Mohan Chowdary alias Krish, an ad designer, and K Muralimohan Reddy — both residents of Bangalore but temporarily staying in hostels in the city.

“The duo used to identify bachelor rooms where software professionals stay and rob them when the inmates were away. Krishna Mohan has a specially designed tool with which he breaks the locks while the other accused maintained a watch outside,” Cyberabad Police Commissioner S Prabhakar Reddy said.

Hailing from a good educational background, the duo would pose as software engineers searching for a colleague’s house, if they were questioned about their suspicious movement.

Krishna Mohan hails from West Godavari and was settled in Bengaluru. He completed his BTech and also worked as a coassistant director in four Tollywood movies.

Krishna Mohan was addicted to horse racing and spent huge sums on this hobby.

In Benguluru, he met the other accused, Murali Mohan Reddy, a degree dropout who was into sea food, cement and steel businesses.

Krishna Mohan took an amount of Rs 6 lakh from Murali Mohan and in the process of getting back his money, the latter also got involved in crimes committed by Krishna Mohan.

“The duo committed committed 22 burglaries since the past three months,” Prabhakar Reddy said.

They stole 55 laptops out of which 21 were sold to Vinay and Parvez, hailing from Benguluru and Mysore respectively. “They, however, could not sell the other laptops as they could not find customers due to the recession,” Prabhakar Reddy said.

The Commissioner said the watchman, who alerted the police about the suspicious movement of the duo, would be rewarded.
