BSY sees parallel with I-Day

Gulbarga, September 19: Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa inaugurated the 62nd Hyderabad-Karnataka Liberation Day celebrations in Gulbarga by garlanding the statue of Sardar Vallabhai Patel, the then Home Minister of India, who was instrumental in liberating the region.

He later said at a public function organised by the district administration that September 17 was no less important a day for the people of erstwhile Hyderabad state as that of August 15, as the region got liberated on that day. He said that he would continue visiting the HK Liberation Day celebrations here as long as he continues as the CM. He also said that he would invite former president APJ Abdul Kalam to inaugurate the Hyderabad- Karnataka liberation day celebrations next year in Gulbarga.

Liberation history in schools

THE CM announced a committee to decide how the history of Hyderabad- Karnataka liberation could be included in the school curriculum and about the content. The Committee consists of famous litterateur Wasant Kustgi, Mahabaleshwar Rao, Prof VG Andani, Dr Majid, Lakshman Dasti, Prof Geeta Badiger of Raichur and Prof HS Patil of Koppal. They will submit its report to the government at the earliest, the CM said.

Renaming of H-K region

THE CM requested the public representatives, social leaders and religious heads to decide about calling the region as Kalyan Karnataka instead of Hyderabad-Karnataka. He said that it was in this region where Kalyana Kranti took place.
