BSP MLA nailed in Banda rape case

Lucknow, January 11: The Uttar Pradesh CB-CID, which is investigating the shocking rape case in Banda involving Bahujan Samaj Party’s sitting MLA Purushottam Naresh Dwiwedi, has found him guilty of the crime, reports claimed Tuesday.

In its report, the CB-CID has confirmed that the 17-year-old victim Sheelu Nishad was raped and that the counter allegations that she was involved in stealing from the MLAs house were false. The probe report has been submitted to the state government.

A probe by the CB-CID was ordered after a personal intervention by Chief Minister Mayawati. Dwiwedi has already been suspended from the party.

Yesterday, Sheelu – belonging to the backward class – had stuck to her allegations in a statement given to a court.

Sheelu, who appeared before Judge Ravi Kumar Gupta, in a statement alleged that Dwiwedi raped her twice and his aides teased her, the prosecution said.

Brought to the court under police protection, the girl said when the MLA tried to rape her for the third time, she somehow managed to escape.

After recording Sheelu’s statement, the court ordered SP Banda to initiate immediate legal action.

Sheelu alleged police was in league with the MLA and his aides and, therefore, did not take action against Dwiwedi.

The girl had given a similar statement to a 3-member team of the National Commission for Women which visited the town on Sunday.

Sheelu, aged 17, had accused the MLA of raping her and later getting her arrested in a fake theft case.
