BSP leaders stage dharna against insult of dalit icons in UP

Bahujan Samaj Party national General secretary and leader of the opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Swami Prasad Maurya today demonstrated and staged dharna near Janeshwar Mishra Park in Gomti Nagar area of the state capital. The BSP leader’s protest was against the Samajwadi Party government’s decision to rename the eight districts besides changing the name of Chatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Medical University to King George Medical University and damaging of the statues of the Dalit icons. Mr Maurya also protested the recent decision of the UP government to rename Manywar Kanshiram Park on socialist leader Janeshwar Mishra, where the dharna was staged. “BSP would not tolerate such insult of the Dalit icons and the party would continue to protest against such illegal and undemocratic act of the state government,” Mr Maurya said while talking to reporters here. He further alleged that the desecration of the statues of Mayawati and other dalit icons was a well hatched conspiracy by the SP government. The SP government had changed the name of eight districts which were earlier named on the Dalit icons in the state. Meanwhile, the traffic system in the state capital was paralysed today following demonstration by the ‘ Asha Bahus’ in front of the Vidhan Sabha. Around 5000 Asha Bahu’s lay seize the roads and gates of the Vidhan sabha on their demand to regularize their job and hike their wages. Asha Bahus are being engaged in the state under the National Rural Health Mission(NRHM) programme and their wages are being delayed.
