Balurghat (WB), Jun 14: In a case of mistaken identity, a BSF personnel on duty shot dead a colleague thinking him a miscreant, in South Dinajpur district in the wee hours.
District Magistrate Swapan Banerjee Purnapatra said the incident occurred at Jamalpur village bordering Bangladesh when BSF personnel Manoj Kumar fired four rounds from his service weapon at Jaipal Singh, another border guard, thinking him a miscreant.
An injured Singh was taken to Balurghat hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, officials said.
The BSF has suspended Manoj Kumar following the incident, Purnapatra said.
