New Delhi: A BSF guard posted at an Indo-Pak border post in Jaisalmer allegedly committed suicide using his service revolver early Monday morning.
Rajkumar Puniya (33), who was posted at the Maruti border post, had returned from his patrol duty early this morning, DIG (BSF) Ravi Gandhi said.
“After coming to the post, he sent his assistant for water and shot himself in the head. His assistant found Rajkumar lying in a pool of blood with a revolver in his hand,” the official said.
Rajkumar, who was a native of Churu district in Rajasthan, was a vivacious persons and never appeared tense or depressed, he said.
Gandhi said he was to go on two months’ leave from today. “He had sought 2 months’ special leave for construction of his house in his village for which he had been sanctioned leave on a priority basis. He also had got a loan sanctioned for the purpose,” he said.
Rajkumar is survived by his wife, two children and his parents. No suicide note was found.
According to BSF officials, Rajkumar had a long telephone call with his wife last night.
