The BSE Sensex extended gains to 1 percent by mid-morning on Tuesday, led by financial issues such as State Bank of India and ICICI Bank on hopes advance tax payments this week will indicate strong earnings.
At 11:07 a.m. (0537 GMT), the 30-share BSE index was up 1.01 percent at 16,378.65 points with 27 components rising.
The 50-share NSE Index was up 1.3 percent at 4,871.05.
