Britons in advanced age groups resent being called “pensioners” or “elderly”, a new survey shows.
According to the survey by retirement income specialists MGM Advantage, such people want to be known as grey panthers or even silver surfers.
The study found that both the government and society in general are upsetting 97 percent of over-65s by using terms they dislike.
Other preferred options of these people include “senior citizen” and “retired person”.
Michelle Mitchell, of Age UK, said: “The over-60s are an incredibly diverse group stretching across up to four decades as well as being ethnically and socially diverse.”
In Britain, millions are living longer, working well into retirement, spending more and contributing to society in ways their grandparents could never dream of.
The number reaching retirement has doubled, with 44 times as many living until they age of 100, while the average life span has increased by a decade.
