British PM on brief visit to Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, June 11: British Prime Minister David Cameron paid a brief visit to the United Arab Emirates on Friday where he met the president, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahayan, the official WAM news agency reported.

The two leaders, meeting in Abu Dhabi for the first time since Cameron came to office last month, discussed bilateral relations and regional issues, the agency said.

Cameron made a previously unannounced visit on Thursday to Afghanistan, where Britain has around 9,500 troops as part of a 46-nation NATO force.

He was forced to abandon a visit to a military base over suspicions that Afghan Taliban insurgents might try to shoot down his helicopter.
