British Airways worker Rajib Karim on suspected terrorism charges

London, March 11: A British Airways (BA) worker was charged with assisting in the preparation of terror attacks in the UK, The Sun reported today.

Rajib Karim, 30, was also charged Wednesday with aiding preparations for an attack abroad and raising funds for terrorism.

The offenses allegedly took place between April 2006 and last month.

Karim was originally detained during a probe into alleged terrorist fund raising, connected to a possible attack on a jet.

Karim was arrested in a February 25 swoop on BA’s huge call centre in Newcastle, northern England.

The first two charges alleged Karim “engaged in conduct in preparation of committing acts of terrorism” in the UK and abroad “or assisted another to commit such acts.”

He could face being jailed for life if convicted.

The third charge alleged he “sent money to others knowing or having reasonable cause to suspect” it might be used for terrorism.

During the police probe, three men in Slough, England – including another BA worker – were held. They were released without charge.

Karim, of Newcastle, was set to appear before London judicial officials today.
