London, March 21: The British government has announced that UK military forces have participated in further attacks on Libyan air defense facilities after it rejected the Libyan dictator’s declared ceasefire.
“Our assessment is he [Muammar Gaddafi] is in breach of these obligations so we will continue to enforce the Resolution,” UK Number 10 said.
British, American and French military forces have joined a coalition after a United Nation’s resolution backed imposing a no-fly zone over Libya.
British defense minister Liam Fox announced that Britain “has launched guided Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles (TLAM) from a Trafalgar Class submarine in the Mediterranean as part of a coordinated coalition plan to enforce the resolution.”
The Libyan regime’s spokesman had announced a ceasefire across Libya and urged citizens to participate in a symbolic march to Benghazi.
William Hague had also admitted the further possibility of considering “non-occupying ground troops” in the country. saying: “It is true, there can’t be an occupation force… it doesn’t exclude every type of operation, but we don’t have any involvement of ground forces at the moment”.
However, the Arab League that backed imposing the no-fly zone over Libya criticized the coalition forces claiming airstrikes were not part of the UN resolution, and condemned the UK, US and French armed forces for the attacks.
