Bring on the Indians: Misbah

Abu Dhabi, November 23: Misbah-ul-Haq, who has provided Pakistan cricket with some of its brightest moments in recent times, even as the match-fixing rows and the lack of home games took its toll, has expressed his desire to play arch-rivals India.

Speaking to reporters at the Zayed Cricket Stadium yesterday, Misbah said: “Of course we’d like to play against India. It’s a very important series for both players and fans.

“It’s always good fun to play in these contests. The interest is high. I hope it happens because, for all fans and players, it is a good occasion.”

Misbah is unbeaten as a Test captain since he took over in October 2010, having played South Africa, New Zealand, West Indies, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.

Consistency key

Commenting on that stint, he said: “We’ve always had talent in the side. When [Shahid] Afridi was captain, we were performing well and winning. Maybe the consistency wasn’t there because some of the players were new then and didn’t have that much experience.

“But since then, building up experience, that brings consistency as well. The efforts we have put in since that time, the results are now coming out.

“Pakistan has never lacked in talent, it’s only a question of commitment and focus. Hard work, the way we are doing, it depends on that.

“If we work like this, remove our weakness in the future, then we can get better in future and be among the top sides.”

Misbah has also won eight out of nine one-day matches since he took over the captaincy from Afridi in May.
