Hyderabad, January 23:The Telugu Desam party president, Mr N Chandrababu Naidu, here on Saturday declared that his party’s struggle would not stop till the government initiated effective measures to bring down the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities.
The former chief minister led “Cycle Yatra” from the Secunderabad Monda Market in protest against the frequent hike in the prices of petrol and diesel by the Union government. Before launching the “Cycle Yatra”, Mr Naidu spoke to vegetable merchants and consumers and elicited their problems.
Speaking to mediapersons later, the TDP president bemoaned that the poor and even middle class persons were not able to buy essential commodities due to spiraling prices. Holding the State and Union governments being responsible for the skyrocketing prices due to their utter incompetence, Mr Naidu demanded that they either take immediate steps to lower the prices of petrol, diesel and essential commodities, or step down honorably.
The former chief minister also stopped at a petrol bunk on the Rashtrapathi Road and spoke to some motorists and elicited their problems. Mr Naidu peddled bicycle for five kilometers to reach Indira Park via Bible House, Kavadiguda and DBR Mills to participate in Maha dharna. He was followed by 1,000 party functionaries and activists peddling bicycles.
Meanwhile, the TDP functionaries and activists launched similar agitations all over the State. (NSS)
