Mumbai : Suspecting terror attack through aerial route, the Mumbai Police on Wednesday declared Brihan Mumbai Commissionarate area as “no flying zone” from April 5 to May 4.
Invoking Section 144 (empowers a magistrate to prohibit an assembly of more than ten people in an area) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), Deputy Commissioner of the Mumbai Police (Operations), Greater Mumbai, and Executive Magistrate Sanjay Barkund prohibited the flying of Drone controlled by remote or Control Area Missile or para gliders or remote control micro-light aircraft over the Brihan Mumbai Commissionarate area.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Deputy Police Commissioner warned that any person contravening the order would be punished under Section 188 (punishment for disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
He, however, exempted the remote control micro-light aircraft of the Mumbai Police for aerial surveillance.
The order was clamped in order to prevent any breach of peace and disturbance of public tranquility and also to avert grave danger to human life, health, safety and injury to public property, he said, adding that it is necessary to put some checks on activities of terrorists/anti-social elements around the Briham Mumbai Police Commissionarate area.
