Brick kiln owner arrested in infant death case

Thane, April 05:A brick kiln owner and his kin have been arrested in connection with the death of a tribal infant here, police said today.

The accused Indrajit Patil (26) was arrested for allegedly beating up a tribal couple and their children seriously injuring a two-month-old on March 19 after he suspected that they were running away with Rs 800 given to
them for expenses, Virar police said.

The Katkari duo–Ravi Lala Pawar and wife Surekha, who worked with Patil, was brought by him from Dahanu to work at his kiln in Kumbhar Pada at Virar.

The couple was roughed at a bus stand here and later at the kiln by Patil, who believed that they were escaping with his money from the city.

On March 26, 2011 the child died while being treated at a hospital here, police said.

Following the incident, police registered an offence under section 304,341,324,504,506, read with 34 of the IPC and also under the Prevention of Atrocities act 3 (6),(10),(14) against the accused and arrested Patil along with his cousin brother Mahesh Laxman Patil (24) who was also party to the crime.
