Breast clinic launched

Hyderabad, April 02: Omega Hospitals here has launched a one-stop breast clinic for treatment of all breast-related problems, including cancer. High-end digital mammography equipment with a specialised couch acquired by them will help detect and diagnose all breast-related diseases, the hospital authorities said.

Chief surgical oncologist Ch. Mohana Vamsy told mediapersons here on Friday that the equipment, in their one-stop clinic, would reduce radiation dosage by about 30 per cent, compared to the analog mammography. Further, the digital equipment would also help detect the smallest of lesions that could not be felt physically, he stated.

Breast cancer was one of the fastest spreading diseases among urban women, Dr. Vamsy said and cited increasing pollution and longevity as reasons for the high incidence of the disease. He suggested the intake of high-fibre and low-fat diet, antioxidant fruits, maintaining a lean body with regular exercise to reduce the risk.

Apart from digital mammography, the one-stop clinic would also undertake stereotactic biopsy, frozen biopsy with cryostat, sentinel node biopsy, breast surgery, breast conservation surgery, onco-plastic breast surgery, breast reconstruction, cosmetic and plastic surgery and others, Dr. Vamsy said. Senior medical oncologists Palanki Dattatreya and S.S. Nirni and medical director W. Indivar Kiran were also present.
