‘Brass polishers’ rob woman

New Delhi, February 25: Two unidentified assailants, posing as brass polishers, allegedly robbed a woman of jewellery worth Rs 75,000 by holding a knife against her daughter’s throat, at their house on Wednesday. Police said Archana Choudhary (32) was home with her two-year-old daughter Jiya and sister when two men came to the house.

“They just rang the bell and asked whether my wife wanted to get some brass utensils polished,” said Narendra Kumar Choudhary, the husband. The incident reportedly occurred at Kamal Vihar in West Sant Nagar around 12:45 pm on Wednesday.

“I was at my chambers in the district court when my wife called me. She said two men robbed her of her jewellery by holding our daughter hostage,” said Choudhary, an advocate. He alleged that while one of the assailants was polishing a temple utensil given to him by his wife, the other started playing with the toddler who was playing in the front yard. “After five minutes, Ragini went inside the house to attend a phone call.

Suddenly one of the men put a knife to Jiya’s throat and demanded my wife’s jewellery,” he said.

“We have registered a case and are investigating the matter,” said Sagar Preet Hooda, DCP north Delhi.
