As soon as Mc Donalds responded to one of the tweets inquiring about Halal meat certificate, #BoycottMcDonalds started trending on the internet initiated by a section of people who wanted Jhatka meat.
The never-ending debate of Halal meat vs Jhatka meat served in Indian restaurants where Halal meat is declared whereas jhatka is not is going to all the new next level with the trending hashtag by a certain section of netizens, India today reports.
A Twitter user, @hibailyas89 had recently asked McDonald’s India whether their restaurants in India have a halal certificate.
To that query, Mc Donalds responded saying all their restaurants in India have a halal certificate and that the meat they use is of the highest quality.
McDonald’s India tweeted, “The meat that we use, across our restaurants, is of the highest quality and is sourced from government-approved suppliers who are HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) certified.”
Adding: All our restaurants have HALAL certificates. You can ask the respective restaurant Managers to show you the certificate for your satisfaction and confirmation.
Instantly McDonalds India received major criticism from Twitteratis for serving and declaring halal meat in a non-Muslim majority country.
After this, the hashtag #BoycottMcDonalds started trending online, with people lashing out, even threatening the fast food outlet for not serving Jhatka meat.
One Twitter user @HasdaaPunjab wrote, “Go To Hell, then. We Hindus only have JHATKA MEAT, Will educate others as well to not have any Non Veg Food From your chain. If you not want to end up like ZOMATO, ensure that JHATKA MEAT is served. Else, embrace for Financial Loss.”
Since Halal meat is associated with Islamic dietary laws, and meat processed and prepared according to the requirements preferred by Muslim community, Jhatka meat, on the other hand, is the meat from an animal killed instantaneously and is in accordance with the animal slaughter laws followed in Hinduism and Sikhism laws.
Well, now it seems even food has religion.
