MUMBAI: #Boycottchhapaak started trending on Twitter soon after Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone reached the Jawaharlal Nehru University to express solidarity with the protesting students.
The actress, who was in the national capital to promote her upcoming film ‘Chhapaak‘, however, chose to not comment on the ongoing situation, but after her appearance at the protests, netizens started trolling her.
Using the trending hashtag #BoycottChhapaak and #BlockDeepika, many broke into a series of hate-filled tweets and unfollowed her.
Soon #BoycottChhapaak became the topmost trend on Twitter.

A host of Bollywood personalities came out in support of Deepika for visiting the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus here to express solidarity with students there.
At least 20 persons, including JNU Students’ Union president Aishe Ghosh, were injured after violence broke out in the campus on Sunday night as masked men armed with sticks attacked students and teachers and damaged property on the campus.
