Maulana Khaled Saifullah Rahmani Secretary All India Muslim Personal Law Board and General Secretary Islamic Fiqqa Academy India have appealed Muslim managed educational institutions not to observe Surya Namaskar or Yoga Day. Maulana Rahmani also requested parents and guardians of Muslim students to register their peaceful and lawful protest at the government and private institutions where Surya Namaskar is forced in the name of Yoga and boycott it.
Surya Namaskar means worshiping the Sun and Yoga could be a form of exercise but polytheistic rites have been made part of it. Hence it is unacceptable for Muslims. Prophet (pbuh) forbids even offering Namaz at those times when the devotees of Sun used to worship it. How can such a religion which is based totally on Unity of God permit worshiping Sun? It is also against our constitution. According to the constitution of the country no act related to any particular religion could be performed in government intuitions nor private institutions could be forced to do so. Government should avoid such unconstitutional act and should not do an act which destroys secular structure of the country.
