Boy trying to retrieve kite electrocuted

Chennai, December 20: A 15-year-old boy was electrocuted when he tried to retrieve a kite entangled in an high-tension electric post in suburban Chromepet near here today.

Police said Anand (15) came in contact with the high-tension wire while trying to retrieve the kite from an open terrace of a house.

Since it was high-tension wire, he was dragged to the post by the high voltage. After power connection was disconnected, he was brought down by fire service personnel. But he was dead by then.

Flying kites in public places is banned in the city since 2007. After two persons chasing kites died in October, police had said the ban would be strictly enforced.
