Rourkela, April 19: A 15-year-old boy, who had lost his limbs after being pushed from a running train here received compensation from railways after two years following intervention by the National Human Rights Commission.
The compensation amount of Rs five lakh was paid to Shankar Singh on Saturday.
Shankar was pushed from Geetanjali express allegedly by TTE (Train Ticket Examiner), N Mishra on July 2, 2008 while the train was leaving Rourkela railway station.
Shankar had found a Rs 50 rupee note while cleaning the train compartment which was claimed by the TTE as his own.
An argument ensued between the two, after which the TTE allegedly pushed Shankar down from the running train.
Doctors at the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) had to amputate the right leg and right hand of Shankar after the incident.
