Boy killed, 2 girls injured in explosion near LoC in Poonch

Srinagar, July 11: A minor boy was blown to death while girls accompanying him got critically injured when an explosive device was triggered accidentally at Bhati Dhar near Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar area of district Poonch today, police said.

A boy, identified as Bhukhar Ahmed, 12, was killed in the explosion while two teenaged girls namely Sahila Praveen, 13, and Shahida Praveen, 14, suffered critical splinter injuries, the Mendhar police told UNI.

The children, along with their livestock, had gone to the nearby forest enclosure when the incident occurred, sources said.

The blast is believed to have occurred after the children fiddled with some explosive lying unattended in the forest area, sources said.

Both the injured girls were referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu, they said.

Security forces had encountered heavily armed militants in the same forest area six-seven months ago. Police have registered a case and started investigation.
