Boy accused of stealing hangs self

Nalgonda, February 10: A 13-year boy hanged himself after being thrashed by his neighbours on suspicion he had entered their house to steal a mobile phone at Kodad in Nalgonda yesterday.

Though the mobile phone was not stolen, four neighbours thrashed him in absence of his parents.

Police said the boy might have ended his life feeling insulted over allegations levelled against him and thrashing given by his neighbours. The incident took place in SC Colony of Kodad town. According to police, A Ram Babu was a class VII student of a local school. His parents, Venkati and Mangamma work as a rickshaw puller and maid servant respectively.

Around 5 p.m on Tuesday, Ram Babu allegedly entered the front room of his neighbours, Anasuya and Surayya when the couple were inside the house. “The couple’s daughter’s Narsamma and Ramanamma, who stay in nearby houses saw Ram Babu come out of the house hurriedly and alerted their parents. They suspected that Ram Babu had entered to steal their mobile phone,’’ Kodad police said.

All the four then went into Ram Babu’s house and thrashed him even as the boy denied their allegations.

Around 8.30 p.m, Ram Babu’s parents returned home and found their son hanging from the ceiling fan. The four neighbours were booked and reportedly taken into custody for questioning following a complaint by the boy’s father.
