Mumbai: India fast bowler Mohammad Shami, who is making his return in the longest format of the game after an 18-month hiatus, believes that maintaining the right line and length will be the key to success in next month’s four-match Test series against the West Indies.
“West Indies is the kind of team that can give you a run for your money on a given day and so you have to be very focussed and aware. We have to focus on line and length (as bowlers),” Shami was quoted as saying by bcci.tv.
The 26-year-old paceman stated that wickets in the Caribbean aren’t much different from the subcontinent conditions, insisting that bowling accurate line and length deliveries would be required to keep the hosts at bay.
Underlining the significance of reverse-swing, Shami admitted that the unique art would his key weapon in the forthcoming tour.
“I enjoy bowling all the more when my ball starts to reverse. So I do wait for the time when the ball will start reversing and then we maintain it (the ball) and start using it. And once it starts reversing (getting the) line and length (right) is very important,” added Shami, who played his last red ball cricket against Australia in January last year.
India will play their first Test against the West Indies on July 21 in Antigua and Barbuda under the leadership of Virat Kohli. (ANI)
