Boris Johnson and wife announce divorce

London: Former British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and his wife Marina Wheeler have announced to set part their ways after 25 years of marriage.

In a joint statement, they said, “Several months ago, after 25 years of marriage, we decided it was in our best interests to separate. We have subsequently agreed to divorce and that process is underway. As friends, we will continue to support our four children in the years ahead. We will not be commenting further,” CNN reported.

In July, Johnson had stepped down from the post of British Foreign Secretary, protesting Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit strategy. He has been calling for a so-called “hard Brexit” approach after the United Kingdom had voted in a referendum in 2016 to leave the European Union.

The news of Johnson’s divorce comes amid predictions that the former British Foreign Secretary is planning to launch a bid to overthrow May as the Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party.

The 54-year-old is under the legal scanner after he compared Muslim women with veils to “bank robbers” and “letterboxes” in a newspaper column last month.
