Border villagers get a taste of India

Hyderabad, March 08: Coming face to face with the rest of India has been an awe-inspiring experience for this group. Living 10 km from the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, this batch of 25 villagers touring Hyderabad for the last four days, it has been a memorable trip.

“India has become very advanced. She is now more advanced than even America,” said 35-year-old Mohd Ramzan. Ramzan has never been out of his village in the Poonch district.

Having seen the Parliament and Rajbhavan in Delhi for the first time, he says he would go back and talk about his journey to fellow villagers. The group visited Charminar, Golconda, Ramoji Film City, Salarjung museum among others.

Organised by the Fifth Maratha Light Infantry, the tour aims at bringing these people face to face with the India they have never seen. “These villagers between the age of 25 to 45 years belong to extremely remote villages. We have organized the tour to show the sights and sounds of the country and make them feel a part of it,” said officer in-charge of the tour, GS Gill.

“This is like an entire new world for us. Life here is so different. I will go back and tell my villagers to go out and see this part of the country,” said 57-year-old Ravi Kumar.
